The behemoth lord of the gaming world has recently seized ‘King,’ the company behind "Candy Crush," for an estimated $5.9 billion. With King, Activision now owns and produces some of the most popular games on consoles ("Call of Duty"), PC ("World of Warcraft," "Hearthstone"), and mobile devices ("Candy Crush").

Activision was founded on October 1, 1979 and was the world's first independent developer and distributor of video games for gaming consoles . Its first products were cartridges for the Atari 2600 video console system published from July 1980 for the US market and from August 1981 for the international market (UK). On July 25, 2013, Activision Blizzard announced the purchase of 429 million shares from owner Vivendi, valuing US$2.34 billion, becoming an independent company. In 2008, Activision Blizzard was estimated to be worth US$18.9 billion, ahead of Electronic Arts , which was valued at US$14.1 billion.   1. Activision retains some of the best games in their respective genres. Some of the games from the roster include “Call of Duty," "Destiny “and “Skylanders". Especially Call Of Duty series earn over $15 billion.
  2. Also ,Activision’s lesser known games are still mainstream and are doing quite well. Especially games like "Guitar Hero" and "Tony Hawk".
  3. Activision is the only publisher who broke their own world sale record for 4 consecutive years. Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 (2012) grossed over $500 million, in the US alone in its first 24 hours, 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 grossed $400 million on one full day; 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops grossed $360 million on day one; in 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 brought in $310 million.
  4. Within 24 hours of going on sale, MW 3 sold 6.5 million copies in the U.S. and UK alone and grossed $400 million, making it the biggest entertainment launch of all time, until it was surpassed by Call of Duty: Black Ops II in November 2012.
  5. As of June 2015, Activision had just under $4.5 billion in available cash — enough to buy 75 million copies of "Destiny," give or take.
  6. In 2012 Call Of Duty Black ops 2 sell 7.5 million Copies, and grossed over $500 million, in the US alone in its first 24 hours, and that time it is the biggest entertainment launch of all time until the record was surpassed by Grand Theft Auto V in September 2013.
  7. $3.6 billion was retained in "offshore" accounts to buy over King. The remaining $2.3 billion is taken from a loan, Goldman Sachs and the Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 title grossed more than $800 million globally in its first five days of availability, exceeding the $775 million record set by 2011's Modern Warfare 3, the $650 million set by 2010's Black Ops and the $550 million one achieved by 2009's Modern Warfare 2. To be exact, it has beaten theatrical box office, book, and video game sales records for five-day worldwide sell-through in dollars.
  9. "Destiny" launch on September 9, 2014, sold around 7 million copies within the first month.

  11. Black Ops II went on to gross $1 billion in the first 15 days of availability, beating Modern Warfare 3's record of the first 16 which Avatar movie takes 19 days.
  12. Considering a hypothetical scenario, if “Destiny" so happened to fail, (very unlikely probability) Activision will still run smoothly, as the company has already generated $990 million revenue within a span of the last quarter.
  13. Activision now looks over one of the leading active game user bases across the globe overseeing around half a billion monthly active users in 196 countries- that clearly surpasses the population of the United States.
  14. World Of Warcraft grossed over $10 Billion in it’s life time. Also Call Of Duty Series grossed over $15 billions.
  15. At present, Activision and King collectively employ around 9,100 people across two continents alongside two dozen game studios. Also on an annual basis, Activision-owned Blizzard Entertainment showcases a convention commonly known as "BlizzCon" which sells out nearly instantly, last year comprising of 26,000 people attend.
