Amazing Facts About Universe

Amazing Facts About Universe(Part 1)(interestingawesome.blogspot.com)

"Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious."
Stephen Hawking

The Universe is all about time, space and its contents. It includes planets, moons, minor planets, stars, galaxies, the contents of intergalactic space, and all matter and energy. The observable universe is about 28 billion parsecs (91 billion light-years) in diameter. The size of the entire Universe is unknown, but there are many hypotheses about the composition and evolution of the Universe. According to wikipedia.org we can answer some of your burning question about universe.

Universe is an extraordinary place. It is so vast and it’s extremely difficult to know the full extent of its complexities. Humans can only scratch at the surface of its immensity, but whenever we do we pick up remarkable information, and images, which are awe inspiring and baffling in equal measure. Balls of burning gas; holes that trap light and everything else; stars made out of diamonds; these are but a few of the many things that make our universe a scary but wondrous place. So here are some of the most awesome facts about universe for your knowledge. This post will continue with Amazing Facts About universe(P2).
  1. Pulsars are magnetized neutron stars that spin incredibly fast and blast out a beam of radiation, kind of like a lighthouse beacon. The fastest known pulsar is PSR J1748-2446ad, located around 18,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius. Though it is of average size for a neutron star, it spins an astonishing 716 times per second. This is nearly a quarter of the speed of light, and exceeds what theories say is possible.
  2. 68 % of the universe is dark energy, and 27 % is dark matters and both are invincible with our greatest and most powerful telescope. That means we have only seen 5 % of the universe from the earth.
  3. Sagittarius B is a vast molecular cloud of gas and dust floating near the center of the Milky Way, 26,000 light-years from Earth, 463,000,000,000 kilometers in diameter and, amazingly, it contains 10-billion-billion-billion liters of alcohol. And it is 1,000 times larger than our solar system.
  4. Astronomers have discovered the largest known diamond in our galaxy, it’s a massive lump of crystallised diamond called BPM 37093. Found 50 light-years away in the constellation of Centaurus, Lucy is about 25,000 miles across, so much larger then planet Earth, and weighs in at a massive 10 billion-trillion-trillion carats.
  5. Olympus Mons on Mars is the tallest mountain on any of the planets of the Solar System. The mountain is a gigantic volcano, standing at 26 kilometers tall and sprawling 600 kilometers across which is taller more than 3 time Mount Everest.
  6. It takes 225 million years for our Sun to travel round the galaxy.
  7. The human brain is the most complex object in the known universe.
  8. The Andromeda galaxy is our closest galactic neighbor, roughly 2.5 million light-years away. Though it is 140,000 light-years across, it isn’t bright enough to be seen in the night sky by our eyes. If it were brighter, it would appear six times larger than the full moon.
  9. Our solar system may smell like hot metal and seared steak, but what about the middle of the Milky Way? According to recent research from the Max Plank Institute, it smells like raspberries and tastes like rum.
  10. As big as the planet Saturn is, if you were to put it in a glass of water, it would float. This is because its density is .687 grams per cm cubed while water’s is the famous .998 g per cm cubed.
  11. The very furthest galaxies are spreading away from us at more than 90% of the speed of light.
  12. The swirling gases around a black hole turn it into an electrical generator, making it spout jets of electricity billions of kilometers out into space.
  13. Jupiter has no surface for a spacecraft to land on because it is made mostly from helium gas and hydrogen. The massive pull of Jupiter’s gravity squeezes the hydrogen so hard that it is liquid.
  14. As a result of the aforementioned fact that light cannot exceed 186,000 miles per second, it would follow that nothing can, which is exactly why this has come to be known as the universal speed limit.
  15. The famous twins paradox postulates that if you put one twin on a spaceship that was moving near the speed of light through space and left another on Earth, due to the effects of relativity, the twin in the space ship would return to the planet significantly younger than his Earth bound sibling.
  16. Astronomers have found a massive water vapor cloud which holds 140 trillion times the mass of water in the Earth’s oceans somewhere around 10 billion light years away – making it the largest discovery of water ever found.
  17. The Universe may have neither a center nor an edge, because according to Einstein’s theory of relativity, gravity bends all of space time around into an endless curve.
  18. The Universe was once thought to be everything that could ever exist, but recent theories about inflation (e.g. Big Bang) suggest our universe may be just one of countless bubbles of space time.
  19. One problem with working out the age of the Universe is that there are stars in our galaxy which are thought to be 14 to 18 billion years old – older than the estimated age of the Universe. So, either the stars must be younger, or the Universe older.
  20. The Milky Way galaxy is whirling rapidly, spinning our sun and all its other stars at around 100 million km per hour.
  21. The middle layers of space suits are blown up like a balloon to press against the astronaut's body. Without this pressure, the astronaut's body would boil!
  22. There is no atmosphere in space, which means that sound has no medium or way to travel to be heard. Astronauts use radios to stay in communication why in space, since radio waves can still be sent and received.
  23. A FULL NASA SPACE SUIT COSTS $11,000,000.While the entire suit costs a cool $11m, 70% of that cost is for the backpack and control module.
  24. Venus has a slow axis rotation which takes 243 Earth days to complete its day. The orbit of Venus around the Sun is 225 Earth days, making a year on Venus 18 days less than a day on Venus.
  25. With powerful telescopes, astronomers can see galaxies 2 billion light years away. This means we see them as they were when the only life forms in Earth were bacteria.
